ADVICE ON FINANCIAL PROTECTION FOR GLOBESPAN CUSTOMERS


SPAA seeks guidance from Adminstrator following eClear failure ...

SPAA Secretary Alisdair Tannahill has sought the advice, on behalf of Members, of PricewaterhouseCooper – the Adminstrator appointed following the failure of Globespan Group – in connection with the position of customers in the wake of the placing in Administration of credit/debit card intermediary eClear. It has been widely reported that the failure of eClear - which cleared funds between credit/debit card issuers and Globespan - to release a substantial multi-million pound sum to the travel group, was significant in Globespan's collapse.

In response to this communication, a representative of PwC has advised that, as the Administrator understands it, customers who paid by Credit Card or by Visa Debit Card will be covered by their card issuers under the Visa / MasterCard scheme charge-back rules, and they should contact the card issuer in the first instance.

Those who paid on other debit cards will not be covered; however anyone who had an ATOL-protected holiday should contact the Civil Aviation Authority.
